Human right activist Aleksey Sokolov is free!

Today, about 10 a.m. Sosnovoborsky City Court granted the petition of the political prisoner Alexey Sokolov parole.

At 15 p.m. Alexey appeared in front of penal colony №40, where lawyer Roman Kachanov waited for him. I managed to phone to take short interview with Aleksey:

- Alexey! How are you and what do you feel? How much court decision on your parole was expected?

- I feel good, and even - great! I'm looking forward to meet my wife and daughter. I didn't expect an early release, but hoped for it. I had a hope, that the court once will be on my side. Now I'm in Sosnovoborsk and together with my lawyer we are waiting for a taxi. We'll go to Krasnoyarsk and from there we will try to go home.

Looking back, Aleksey Sokolov is a human right activist, who was put to prison because of his human right activity, connected with protection of prisoners rights. Because of the Federal Service for Execution of Punishment critics, Sokolov was threatened with initiating criminal case many times.

13th of May 2009, Aleksey was arrested near his house by policemen, who were dressed in civilian clothes. Since the day of arrest human right activists fought for Aleksey's freedom.
