The Sovetsky District Court of Krasnoyarsk has ordered a pre-trial detention measure for Nikita Uvarov in a new criminal case that was opened against him in a penal colony a month before his scheduled release.
Nikita will now not be released on March 19 and will remain in pre-trial detention.
In February, a new criminal case was fabricated against Nikita - for alleged participation in the "extremist organization A.U.E.". The concept of "extremist organisation A.U.E." is completely fabricated. A.U.E. is a common slogan of prisoners subculture that might be approximately translated as "Prisoner's Code is United", but prisoners subculture is by no means any unified extremist organisation. The absurdity of the charges and the timing of their initiation clearly indicate that law enforcement simply did not want to release him.
In February 2022, the 1st Eastern District Military Court sentenced Nikita Uvarov-who was arrested when 14 years old in 2020 - to 5 years in prison on charges of "training in terrorism." Other defendants in the case received suspended sentences. The case was initiated after the teenagers were detained for posting leaflets criticizing the state and supporting political prisoners.
In August 2023, the human rights project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial," which continues the work of the dissolved Memorial Human Rights Center, recognized Nikita Uvarov as a political prisoner.
Nikita is currently being held in Pre-Trial Detention Center No. 1 in Krasnoyarsk, and letters can be sent to him.
