Solidarity evening for anarchist prisoners was held in Moscow

An evening of solidarity with anarchist prisoners was held in "Tol'ko Sami" space in Moscow on August 27th. Several dozen people came to support the imprisoned comrades.

Historian and philosopher Peter Ryabov (on picture) told how and why the Anarchist Black Cross groups emerged worldwide in the early 20th century and what was their work. He shared how the resistance continued in the USSR in the period of 1930-1985 - people didn't want to put up with authoritarianism; how in the 1990s-2000s, along with the development of the anarchist movement in Russia, anti-repression groups emerged and the ABC tradition was revived.

An activist Ivan Markov also spoke about the history of the leftist movement in Crimea in 2009-2018, as well as the criminal case against anarchist Yevgeny Karakashev, who is now held in Russian prison.

The participants of the event honored the memory of the anarchists who died during the armed conflicts and fell victims of the prison system, with a minute of silence.

Letters and postcards were collected. And at the very end of the evening its participants were photographed with posters in support of political prisoners: the photos will be given to the imprisoned comrades through the lawyers.

The event was held as part of the annual International Week of Solidarity with anarchist prisoners.

We are now working to rebuild the anarchist movement in Russia after a period of stagnation and repression, and we need your support to improve our webpage. Join our Firefund campaign to raise funds!
