I like this podcast, it
I like this podcast, it usually is very thoughtful. But this coverage of the situation in Israel/Palestine is just wrong. It is obvious that the authors are hearing from Zionist Israelis but not from Palestinians or anti-Zionist Israeli anarchists.
"if you demonstrate in Europe or America under an Israeli or Palestinian flag, you are likely covering up the crimes of one side and ignoring the civilian victims of the other."
Many anti-Zionist Jewish people around the world—who are very concerned about the deaths of civilians of all identities—have demonstrated under Palestinian flags. It is deeply irresponsible to insult them by saying that they are covering up crimes (especially when some of them lost relatives on October 7). The same goes for many Palestinians and their supporters. Today, the Israeli flags, on the other hand, always represent support for an ongoing massacre that dehumanizes the civilian victims.
There is no way to compare the events of October 7 with what has occurred since then. If we can agree that it is bad when 1200 people are killed, we can agree that it is worse when 40,000 people are killed and over a million are rendered homeless and starved. If we can agree that some Israelis having to leave their homes because of Hezbollah threats is bad, we can agree that what has been happening to Palestinians since before 1948 is worse. We can look at South Africa and Israel and see that in both cases, the real problem is the fundamental dehumanization of a part of the population.
Today, you are either in favor of Israel continuing to pursue a genocidal policy in Palestine, or you are trying to stop it. That is the important question. Do not insult those who are trying to stop the genocide. Many of them (many of us) are anti-Zionist Jews or Israeli anarchists who understand the situation much better than you do.
